The hair salon in Beijing's Ganjiakou was packed with customers and
witnessed a booming business on Mar. 1. A Chinese folk saying tells a
custom that "the dragon raises its head on the 2nd day of the 2nd lunar
month and one must have his hair cut." Many people in Beijing, a city
with profound traditional culture, still follow the traditional custom of
not having a haircut in the first lunar month but starting to have
haircuts from the 2nd day of the 2nd lunar month. This custom made hair
salons see business depression in the first month of the lunar year.
